Our branch of the Sparks family descends from William Sparks who arrived in Maryland before 1670  through William Jr., William Sample Sparks,  Matthew Sparks, to Nathan Sparks, the ninth of Matthew's twelve children, who was born 1775 in North Carolina.   The early ancestors of this line are well documented by several researchers. Nathan Sparks had eleven children.  The first three children were born in Georgia, but Nathan then moved his family to Tennessee where the next eight children were born.   William C. Sparks, son of Nathan and Nancy (Hancock) Sparks, was  born in Wilson County, Tennessee on October 6, 1815.  It is Nathan's son, William C., and his descendants who are the focus of these pages.
